When you are working on your Curriculum Vitae, it can be quite daunting. You may not know what exactly to put in and what to leave out. Here are a few guidelines that make the job easy for you. In the current job scenario, a professional resume is your entry to a good job.

  • Just make sure that your resume is laser-printed on a good quality paper and use a clean typeface to present it. Do not use less than 12 point in text.
  • Give out clear sub headings to divide your professional details in various parts. This helps potential employers take a clear look at the information they require with ease without wasting time on details they may not be too interested in.
  • You must have well defined spaces between the different category headings for clarification.
  • Always start with your present employer and go on talking about your career history in brief. No paragraphs, only one liners or few words.
  • If you are just starting out your working life, and have only been a student so far, provide in depth knowledge about your academic achievements to date.
  • Where you can, quantify your achievements and use precise facts and figures to explain your duties with other organizations. For instance, to talk about your duty as a finance person, use words like managed staff in the firm, handled the budget, prepared finance reports, etc.
  • Expand on the skills which you are applying to your present job. Make sure they know how good you are at something you are doing at present.
  • For all the work experience you have, unless one appointment was more significant than the last position, make sure you give brief details with the name of the company, period of employment and the job title (to begin with).
