IIT Jam is not tougher than IIT JEE, both in terms of difficulty and competition. There are a lot of similarities in the exams, but there are differences too, which make one tougher than the other. IIT JEE is conducted for 12th-passed students who aspire to get admission for B.E/B.Tech/Integrated M.Tech in the Indian Institutes of Technology, the most prestigious engineering institutes in the country. On the other hand, IIT Jam is conducted for science graduates who are interested in getting admission to M.Sc courses in IITs.

IIT JEE stands for Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Exam. Millions of aspirants give the exam every year, making it highly competitive. One should have completed their 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths as their subjects to apply for JEE. The exam comprises 2 levels:

  • JEE Main: This is an objective type paper. You’ll have to come under the top 250,000 in this exam to qualify for the next level – JEE Advanced. JEE Main scores are used for admissions in various engineering colleges across the country, like the National Institute of Technology, the Indian Institute of Information Technology, etc. There are 2 different papers of 3 hours each in JEE Main: 
  1. Paper 1 – It focuses on physics, chemistry, and mathematics. It is for undergraduate engineering courses in various institutes.
  2. Paper 2 – It focuses on aptitude tests, mathematics, and drawing aptitude. It is for various architecture and management courses
  • JEE Advanced: The top 250,000 from JEE Main give this exam. It comprises 2 objective-type papers of 3 hours each. From here on, the top rankers get admission into IIT.

Is IIT JAM Tougher than IIT JEE? IIT JAM stands for Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Admission Test for Masters. One should have passed graduate courses in science subjects with 60% marks to apply for JAM. There would be objective and descriptive type questions for all the subjects, other than Biotechnology and computer technology, which contain objective type questions only. The top rankers in IIT JAM get selected for post-graduate courses at IIT.
