Is IIT and JEE Same? IIT and JEE are not the same. They are two very different terms but are interconnected to each other. IIT stands for Indian Institute of technology. The Indian Institutes of technology are the most prestigious engineering colleges in the country. And JEE stands for Joint Entrance Exam. It is an entrance exam for getting admission into all the IITs. 

The Indian Institutes of Technology is a government-owned conglomerate of educational institutions in India. IITs are recognized and appreciated globally for their quality education and internationally acclaimed research facilities. IIT is famous for creating the best scientists, engineers, and technologists. IITians are known to acquire professional excellence in life. They can get admissions for further studies in the best universities abroad or get employed in good organizations around the world. There are millions of aspirants every year who dream to get into IIT. And JEE is the exam they have to clear to make it a reality. 

The Joint Entrance Exam is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority for selecting candidates for admission to the 23 IITs. But other than the 23 IITs, Admissions to 31 National Institutes of Technology, 25 Indian Institutes of Information Technology, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes are also decided through JEE. The exam is tough and highly competitive. The JEE contains 2 stages – JEE Main and JEE Advanced: 

  • JEE Main – Candidates have to clear the JEE main to appear for JEE advanced. JEE main also offers a chance to get admission to Undergraduate Engineering programs and prestigious institutions like NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, etc.
  • JEE Advanced – Now, to get admission into various undergraduate programs across all the 23 IITs, candidates will have to clear the second level of JEE, which is JEE Advanced. One can appear for the Advanced, by attaining a rank within the top 250,000 in the mains.
