The Civil Services Examination is a nationwide competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to the higher civil services of the Government of India, including the IAS, the Indian Foreign Service, and the Indian Police Service in India. The UPSC Mains Syllabus is Divided Subject-Wise
It includes language, general knowledge as well as optional subjects & How Many Papers In UPSC Mains. There are a total of 9 papers in this exam and there are about 180 to 200 questions with a total of 1750 marks. The time allotted for each paper is three hours.
Paper 1: In this, you have to choose any one language out of eighteen Indian languages, on the basis of which this paper is, and it is of 300 marks in which there are 20 to 25 questions. And the marks of this paper are not added to the final result.
Paper 2: This question paper is in English language and it is also 300 marks and marks of this paper are also not included in the final result.
Paper 3:This is the paper of Essay Writing, which is in two sections, in which the essay has to be written on one topic from each section, and this paper consists of 250 marks. The marks of this paper are added to the final result.
Paper 4,5,6 and 7th: All these papers are of general studies and each paper consists of 250 marks. All these papers are taken for the purpose of testing your social and economic understanding etc. In these papers, your understanding and knowledge are tested in various issues and situations.
8th and 9th question papers: Both these papers are optional subjects which you can choose according to your interest. Each question paper carries 250 marks and the marks of both these papers are added to the final result.
The candidates who qualify the Mains exam are called for an interview and have to answer questions from the senior selectors of the UPSC Board. The final merit and rank are prepared by adding the marks of Mains + Interview (1750+275= 2025). after which your post as IAS is decided.
